Generosity in abundance.

September in Jackson means a scramble for school supplies, crisp fall mornings, and a contagious generosity inspired by the ultimate community event, Old Bill’s Fun Run. Like just about every other local nonprofit, Becoming Jackson Whole relies on donations we receive through Old Bill’s in support of our work. Thank you for keeping us, and many other important nonprofits, in mind.

Generosity -- giving or sharing things of value -- is one of many human capacities strengthened by mindfulness practices. Below, we offer a simple generosity practice from Samuel Singer, one of many talented local practitioners we’re lucky to count as partners. We are nearly two weeks into the 100 Acts of Mindfulness campaign and are thrilled to hear you’re putting the daily practices to use. Generosity is lucky #13 out of 100.

Together, we’re learning the variety of ways mindfulness can slide easily into our daily lives. Whether you’re sitting at a stoplight or eating a snack or logging onto a Zoom meeting, focusing your attention on the present, with intention, benefits your brain. Whether it’s for a few seconds or twenty minutes, paying attention -- on purpose -- is an act of generosity to yourself, a true gift to your mental wellness.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 1, we will share multiple pocket practices each day as we continue the 100 Acts of Mindfulness campaign. We want to show you how easily you can pause throughout the day to practice a moment of mindfulness. First thing in the morning, we’ll send an email with the day’s practice and a few extra suggestions for ways to incorporate it into your regular activities. If you haven’t registered for our campaign mailing list, now would be a great time to join. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram to receive the practices in your social feeds.

What is special about Becoming Jackson Whole, according to our national advisors and partners around the country, is our vision to innovate with you — community-wide. As Sara often says, “we’re building this plane as we fly it!” Thank you for your generosity with us ... for reading, for joining, for practicing, for celebrating. Continue to let us know what you think. We take your input seriously.

With gratitude,

Cindy Bartz and the Becoming Jackson Whole team
