THE PRACTICES

If you feel overwhelmed at any point during a practice, please don't continue. Open your eyes and look around. Take a few deep breaths. Stand up and walk around the room.

Day 18

This 9-minute practice from BRITTANY BELISLE, founder of Jackson’s Home Yoga, invites us to focus on the impact of all the helpers in life — from those who taught you basic skills during childhood to people who served as role models or inspiration — anyone who's influenced who you are today.

Day 17

Self-compassion expert Dr. Kristin Neff suggests we "give ourselves the same kindness and care we’d give to a good friend." Today's 9-minute practice, led by DEIDRE NORMAN, is an exercise in directing great love and compassion to ourselves. What do you notice about the experience of cultivating self-compassion?

Day 16

This 11-minute practice, courtesy of DAN ROOF, invites us to really sit in what is now, accepting things just as they are, cultivating unconditional kindness toward yourself and others.

Day 15

Welcome to Week 3! The home stretch! This week opens with a brief introduction from our founder, SARA FLITNER, about connection — “a powerful source of well-being.” Then, settle in for one of Sara’s favorite practices, a 10-minute connection meditation called “Well Wishes.”

Day 14

Mindfulness trainer DAN ROOF calls this practice — one of his favorites — “Rooted, Relaxed, and Receptive.” Press play and listen for 12 minutes as Dan offers a sensory tour of the body and what it’s sensing and feeling.

Day 13

Set aside 10 minutes in a quiet spot. We suggest you try lying down for this meditation — wherever is comfortable — and enjoy teacher DEIDRE NORMAN's guidance to visualize a beautiful lake.

Day 12

KIRSTEN CORBETT, a Jackson native, mindfulness trainer, and communications director at History Jackson Hole, leads this 10-minute practice on cultivating curiosity. Mindfulness practice invites us to get curious and feel what’s happening in the present moment without judgment or effort, before we tell ourselves a story about what’s happening (that’s perhaps less true).

Day 11

Today, we'll explore some go-to practices for life's challenging moments, led by SGT JEROMIE TRAPHAGAN of the Jackson Police Department. Choose which suits your right now (maybe both!) Disclaimer: Mindfulness practice will not make a difficult emotion, sensation, or situation go away, but it will make you more clearly aware of how you’re responding to challenge. When we’re aware, we have more choice.

Day 10

AMY LANE guides this beautiful 10-minute practice that cultivates a sense of timeless presence — setting aside the past and the future and simply being.

No Past. No Future.

Day 9

So many of our thoughts are accompanied by judgments — “That's right.” “That's wrong.” “I should be….” “I shouldn't be….” SUE MASON leads us through a 9-minute practice of noticing those judgements — without judging them — cultivating our ability to simply observe the experience of the present moment.

Day 8

You've arrived at Week 2! Perhaps you've been able to stick with the practices, or maybe you've found it challenging to stay consistent. Either way, we're glad you are here.

Today's recording starts with a welcome to Week 2 from SARA FLITNER, founder of Becoming Jackson Whole, followed by a simple breath practice. The “golden moment” is when you refocus after noticing you’re distracted. What are the sensations and thoughts that tug at your attention?

Day 7

Today, SGT TONY MATTHEWS shares an 8-minute connection practice. He often leads this type of practice, also known as '‘well wishes,” among fellow officers of the Jackson Police Department, where mindful awareness is a dedicated component of staff training and self-care. Try this practice now and imagine sharing this connection with all of our community’s civil servants!

Day 6

MACKENZIE COLE introduces a different type of practice — the body scan — with this 8-minute mental check-in. When your mind wanders (and it will!) gently bring your attention back to the instruction. You may become so relaxed during this practice that you fall asleep. That's not a problem. A deep breath can help you reawaken, or feel free to take a little nap.

Day 5

This practice, led by DAN ROOF, incorporates deep gratitude for the nourishment of your own breath and the constant companionship of your own body.

Day 4

The name of this 9-minute body scan from KIRSTEN CORBETT — “Three Breaths to Let Go” — captures the restful, comforting qualities of this practice.

Day 3

SAMUEL SINGER offers an 8-minute Focused Attention practice to help us gain awareness of our breathing (a place to return our attention when the mind jumps the rails….again).

Day 2

As you engage this practice, ‘Breathing Anchor’ led by BRITTANY BELISLE, you'll probably find that you mind wanders off. That's not a problem. It's in noticing that your attention has drifted that you're practicing mindfulness.

Day 1

We'll begin this 21-Day Challenge with an introduction from SARA FLITNER, founder of Becoming Jackson Whole, followed by a 12-minute practice called No Agenda: Pause. Breathe. Repeat. Our first and simplest step toward mindfulness is to PAUSE and take a breath. In this space of one full breath, notice what's actually happening right now, where you are.
