THE PRACTICES
If you feel overwhelmed at any point during a practice, please don't continue. Open your eyes and look around. Take a few deep breaths. Stand up and walk around the room.
Day 3
You did it! You've bumped your mindfulness quotient by (probable) miles!
Here's the final installment in our SANITY PAUSE, a 2-minute self-compassion practice that's really about treating our own disappointment and difficulty the way we might counsel a good friend to respond. Don't skip this one, even if you're feeling a little squishy about "self-compassion." This is hardcore neurobiological science at work!
Day 2
We're back! "Just Like Me" is an awareness practice that trains the brain to reframe everyday challenges and create space to see the humanity in others. Set aside just 2 minutes to listen as this recording guides you through a few reps, then put this handy tool in your pocket for use anytime, anywhere!
ps: This is one of Sara's go-to mindfulness skills, helpful whenever you're waiting in line, feeling the rush of righteous indignation, about to say something you might regret, etc...!
Day 1
Welcome! We're so glad you've joined us for a few moments of clarity. Your goal for the next three days is to press play on each practice and join the hundreds of others in our wider community who are doing the same thing. How cool is that? (Literally, how much might we cool it?) Set aside just three minutes in a quiet spot. Click on the button below, and do your best to follow the instructions in the recording.
Your attention will wander—probably a lot. That's normal. When you notice you've moved on to other thoughts, gently bring your attention back to the recording. The practice of mindfulness is in noticing that moment when the mind wanders, not in the elimination of mind-wandering.
Meet the Practice Leader
SARA FLITNER is the founder and president of Becoming Jackson Whole (and the mother of two human sons and several four-footeds). After practicing meditation for many years, Sara developed a particular interest in the neuroscience of mindfulness and how attention training might better equip leaders to solve problems. She founded Becoming Jackson Whole with a vision for a community where the majority of us have a greater capacity for empathy, compassion, and resilience.
